Description

The Golden-handed tamarin is a new world monkey. They have a total body length of 30 – 43 cm including their tail. They are 400–550 g in weight. The fur color of tamarin is dark brown to dark black and its feet are golden in color. Their face is hairless but dark in color. their toes consist of sharp claws. The thumb of golden-handed tamarin is not opposable.
Native Region/Habitat
The Golden-handed tamarin is native to French Guiana, South America, Brazil, Venezuela, and Guyana. They inhabit wooded areas, savanna forests, coastal plains, and moist forests.

Behavior/Temperament
Golden-handed tamarins are intelligent and gregarious animals that live in bands of 3-14 individuals. They can be aggressive and conscious about their territory. They are nocturnal and arboreal in nature. In captivity, they need enough space for climbing and jumping on trees. The small enclosure will make them aggressive, bored, and depressed. They enjoy activities in an enclosure that include climbing, jumping, and hanging on ropes.
Care/Grooming
Golden-handed tamarins need intense care because they are very sensitive to bacteria and viral infections. To avoid this the enclosure must be cleaned properly on a daily basis. The floor must be sanitized weekly. Toys and blankets of golden-handed tamarin must be clean and germ-free.
