A species of ray-finned fish is called the Giraffe Seahorse, or Hippocampus camelopardalis. A individual can reach a height of 10 cm. They can reproduce sexually. This fish species known as the Giraffe seahorse (Hippocampus camelopardalis. It can be found in Tanzania, South Africa, and Mozambique. Habitat
The fish species known as the giraffe seahorse (Hippocampus camelopardalis) belongs to the Syngnathidae family. It can be found in the coastal seas off of Africa’s east and south coasts, from Tanzania to Kenya and potentially as far north as South Africa. It can reach lengths of 10 centimetres in algal beds, estuarine seagrass beds, and shallow reefs down to 45 metres (148 feet) in depth (3.9 in).
Food
Like other seahorses, it is anticipated that it would eat tiny crustaceans for food.
Reproduction
The males of this species are ovoviviparous, which means before giving birth to live young they keep the eggs in a brood pouch. Sexual maturity is reached at about 6.5 centimetres (2.6 in).
Bycatch-related overexploitation, habitat loss owing to coastal development and pollution, and human use of seahorses for traditional medicine or as collectibles are major threats to this species.
Appearance
Dark patches on the dorso-lateral surface of the seahorse and one on the top of the coronet, or crown, of the animal’s head are two of its distinguishing features.
