Characteristics and Genetics

A unique breed of domestic pig known as the Gascon has persisted in France’s more isolated and hilly regions. The Midi-Pyrénées region is home to the Gascon, which is arguably France’s oldest surviving pig breed.

Despite being on the endangered list, it possesses many desirable qualities. It is prone to gaining a lot of weight, like most traditional breeds, but it is also energetic, resilient, frugal, and tolerant of hot conditions. The sows are productive and provide enough of milk for their young.
