Description
Scientific Name: Mesechinus wangi
Lifespan: 4-7 years
M. wang apart from other species in the genus due to the large nasal region, the colour patterns on the spines, and the presence of M4 teeth set. It hibernates from the middle of October to the beginning of April. The species has only been discovered in the Gaoligongshan National Nature Reserve, therefore the population number has not yet been determined, but it is most likely very limited.
Habitat
Mesechinus wangi, often known as the Gaoligong forest hedgehog or Wang’s forest hedgehog, is a species of hedgehog unique to China that belongs to the Erinaceidae family. It is unique to the Yunnan Province’s slopes of Mt. Gaoligong, where it inhabits subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest at elevations ranging from 2200 m to 2680 m. The other species in this genus have distributions that are distinct from this one.
As Pet
Their spines protect them from any attack, so be gentle with them in captivity. Their diet consists of bird eggs, small reptiles, tiny rodents, and nestlings.
