Size
Male adults can grow to a maximum length of 10 inches, though this is highly improbable. A mature female is only eight inches tall on average.
Physical Characteristics and Behavior
Female Nimbochromis fuscotaeniatus, also known as “Fusco,” has a pattern of tan and dark brown patches all over their bodies as juveniles and adults. Males have blue bodies and crimson fins as they reach sexual maturity. The two have pointy, sloping skulls and large mouths. They ambush their prey, which is frequently smaller fish, when the victims are preoccupied.
In Captivity
- Tank Size
100 Gallons
- Substrate
Even though the aquarium should have some rockwork, there should still be enough open swimming space around the bottom and in the middle of the tank.
- Diet
Give your cichlids a high-quality flake or pellet diet and, on occasion, top it off with frozen brine, krill, mysis, and feeder fish. As a predator, N. fuscotaeniatus frequently ambushes smaller fish. It shouldn’t be maintained with smaller Haps and Mbuna because of this.
- Water Parameters
Their preferred water temperature range is between 75- and 79 degrees Fahrenheit (24-26 degrees Celsius). Alkaline, hard water is a must. dH up to 25, pH between 7.5-8.
