Forsterite

Forsterite.

Appearance

Also referred to as chrome mica, fuchsite is a kind of mica/muscovite that crystallizes as plates, including layers, scales, masses, and tabular crystals. Chromium is the source of Fuchsite’s green hue. Its hardness ranges from 2 to 2.5. Its green color is caused by the chromium that is naturally added to its genetic makeup. Although it can occasionally be found in medium to dark green, the stone is usually quite light green in color.

Geographical Distribution

Fuchsites are found all over the world, although some regions—like Brazil, South America, and India—are thought to have some of the most beautiful scenery on earth. Other well-liked locations include Madagascar, Switzerland, the United States, Germany, and Russia. It is also found as minute micaceous aggregates (with individual plates hardly visible) as a main component of chromium-rich phyllitic or schistose metamorphic rocks of the Greenschist facies.

History

It is a quite common mineral that was named in honor of the renowned German mineralogist Johann Nepomuk von Fuchs when it was found in the early 1800s. In the general muscovite formula, trivalent chromium takes the place of one of the aluminum (Al) atoms, giving fuchsite its distinctive apple green color.

Metaphysical Properties

Fuchsite helps us become grounded and clear, which promotes emotional and physical healing as well as spiritual development. It helps us modify our daily lives for optimal well-being, so regardless of the condition, it returns the power of healing into your own hands.

Chemical Composition

It is a kind of muscovite mineral rich in chromium (Cr) that belongs to the mica group of phyllosilicate minerals. Its chemical formula is K(Al,Cr)2(AlSi3O10)(OH)2. It differs from most other muscovites in that a variable quantity of trivalent chromium replaces aluminum within the stone.

Uses

Green muscovite, also known as fuchsite, is used in the production of insulating and fireproofing materials as well as, to a lesser extent, as lubricant.
