Fire Agate

Fire Agate

Appearance

One type of chalcedony, a microcrystalline quartz variant, is fire agate. Its vivid, iridescent colors are a result of the thin layers of iron oxide and other minerals that are present. There are many different colors of fire agates, such as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Fire agates, like chalcedony, are members of the trigonal crystal system.

A type of microcrystalline quartz known as chalcedony is what fire agates are made of. Iron oxide and other mineral inclusions within the silica matrix give them their flaming appearance.
