The fawn coat is the product of the interaction between the agouti and black genes. From light cream to reddish brown, fawn can range in colour. The nose of an American Bully fawn may be brown, black, or liver in hue. Pitbulls with fawn coats may also have brindle markings.
Genes
The A locus in dogs is responsible for the color of their coat, resulting from the melanocyte genes. The four known alleles (variants) of agouti listed here, along with the corresponding color pattern and dominance level, are faw/sable (ay), yellow to red with some dorsal black-tipped hairs, wild sable (aw) banded hairs of yellow and black, black-and-tan (at) black dorsal hairs with tan hair and recessive black (a) all black in some dog breeds.
