Faverolles Chicken

faverolles

French chickens of the Faverolles breed are raised. Near the towns of Houdan and Faverolles in north-central France, this breed was created in the 1860s. The latter settlement gave the breed its name, hence the singular is Faverolles rather than Faverolle.

Description

Chickens from the Faverolles breed stand out thanks to their huge bodies, fluffy beards, and muffs. These heavy, massive birds with beards are ideal for producing meat and eggs, but there are other enormous chickens on the market. Like Silkies, Faverolles have five toes on each foot. They have feathers on their shanks and toes and are fluffy and highly feathered. There are many colors available for faverolles, including black, white, ermine, cuckoo, mahogany, blue, and splash. But salmon is by far the most popular color. The most popular shade of this species are the Salmon Faverolles, with the ladies being a gorgeous brown and cream hue and the males being a deeper (light) brown and black color. Salmon is a hue that can only be found on Faverolles chickens, making it special to this breed.
