Ehrhardt’s Corydoras

Ehrhardt's corydoras fish

Size

The fish can reach a height of 1.6 inches (4.1 cm) (4.1 centimeters).

Physical Characteristics and Behavior

A Corydoras ehrhardti can grow up to 1.6 inches in length. They might bend their heads slightly to simulate blinking. These fish can breathe air on their own and frequently swim to the top for a breath because their highly vascularized intestines allow them to collect oxygen from the air. The tank should be covered and only partially filled because these fish may breathe air from its surroundings.

Care and Keeping as Pet

Ehrhardt's corydoras

  • Water Conditions

It thrives in tropical environments with water that ranges in pH from 6.0 to 8.0, hardness from 2 to 25 dGH, and temperature from 72 to 79 °F (22 to 26 °C).

  • Diet

The omnivorous Corydoras ehrhardti species. They consume worms, benthic crustaceans, insects, and plant materials in the wild. You may feed them dried, live, and frozen items, and they will eat nearly anything that sinks to the bottom of the tank.

  • Handling

Corydoras ehrhardti contains sharp pectoral spines that can penetrate human skin; as a result, they should be handled carefully and moved using a plastic container rather than a net because the spines could become caught in the mesh.

Since these fish have no scales, adding salt to the aquarium will harm them because they are so sensitive to it.

  • Tank Setup

Always use fine sand or gravel as a substrate to keep their barbels protected. Ehrhardt’s cories should only be kept with other peaceful species and prefer a tank with lots of hiding spots. Corydoras must be kept in compact groups of no more than five fish.

  • Spawning and breeding

The male fertilizes the female’s 2-4 eggs for around 30 seconds while they are held between her pelvic fins. The female swims to a suitable location after fertilization and lays the extremely sticky eggs there. Without adult protection, the masked corydoras lays its eggs amid dense vegetation. The couple up to roughly 100 fertilized and connected eggs repeat this technique.
