Eclectus Parrot

Eclectus-Parrot

Description

Life span: Up to 30 years

The Eclectus parrot is a bird of average size. Females tend to be bright red, while males are typically brilliant green. Because of their natural environment’s great camouflage, they can often be heard before they are seen. Previously, it was believed that the male and female Eclectus belonged to different species. Eclectus parrots are popular pets all around the world and thrive in captivity.

Habitat/Native Region

Eclectus parrots live in the Solomon Islands, Indonesia, New Guinea, northern Australia, and the Moluccas. Figs, flowers, leaf buds, certain seeds, and fruits like papaya and pomegranate make up the majority of their natural diet.

Behavior

Eclectus parrots are kind, intelligent birds who make wonderful family members because of their peaceful disposition. Although they get along well with kids, they cannot tolerate frenzied activity or persistently upsetting noise. Instead of the other way around, it will be crucial to teach kids how to act around the bird.

Even when kept as solitary pets, female Eclectus parrots have strong nesting tendencies and may look for nest sites in confined and dark spaces around the house, such as cabinets and below furniture. Females can be rather possessive, especially during breeding season. If the owner retains a couple of men and women, the woman will probably be in charge.

Care

Eclectus parrots are very active and need a big cage and lots of time outside to engage with the owner. Because these birds might grow restless and unhappy when confined, get the biggest cage that house and money will allow. A lot of chewable toys, including those made of softwood, are needed for an Eclectus parrot because they are by nature playful. Make sure Eclectus gets lots of care and stimulation. Eclectus can amuse themselves, but the owner must give them interesting objects to use as “jobs” in order for them to do so.
