Don Goat

Don Goat

Description:

Its habitat, which includes the basin of the Don River and its tributaries, is why it was given the name Don. A medium-sized goat is a don. Their bodies have a rather rounded appearance, and the bucks’ skeletons are larger than the does’. They have a sturdy constitution, nice conformation, and enough body, neck, and belly undercoat wool.

They occasionally have white parts, but they are mostly black. They have broad, irregularly shaped horns. Bucks have longer, straighter, and wider backs than does.

Don-Goat

Behavior:

Don goats are robust creatures with generally decent manners. Among all goat breeds, they produce the most wool.

Benefits/Uses:

A versatile breed of goat is the don. They are raised for milk, wool, and goatskin production. They help in the production of meat in some way.

Origin/History:

The breed originates in Russia’s Lower Volga region around the Don River.

Of all the goat breeds, don goats generate the most average wool per goat that is sheared. Moreover, the breed yields milk with a rather high fat content. An All-Union Institute of Sheep and Goat Husbandry trip investigating goats in the old lower Volga province discovered the breed in 1933–1934.
