Dogo Argentino

Dogo-Argentino

The Dogo Argentino is a giant, white, powerful dog breed that was created in Argentina especially for the purpose of hunting big game, such as wild boar.

Characteristics

The Dogo Argentino is a huge, white, short-coated dog with black patches on its skin. It has a powerful, muscular build, and its coat is usually unmarked (any type of marking or spot on the coat is considered a flaw). The Federacion Iconological Argentina accepts a Dogo Argentino with a black or brindle spot on its head known as a “pirate,” even though it is not permitted in many clubs.

Care as a Pet/ In Captivity

Feeding

For the greatest outcomes, dogo Argentino puppies require pet chow that is high in calcium and protein. Three meals should be given to them each day. Adult Dogos require premium pet food with nutritionally balanced ingredients. To help them digest, they should be fed twice a day.

Exercise

Exercise is necessary for the Dogo Argentino for at least 60 minutes each day. While brisk walks are beneficial, letting your Dogo run around freely in a safe place will really exhaust it. Try a competitive game of fetch or a canine sport like weight pulling, agility, or obedience. This will not only put physical strain on the Dogo but will also give him a mental workout. When you’re out and about, keep your dog on a leash at all times because Dogos have a high prey drive and may flee if not controlled.

Grooming

The Dogo has a short coat, making grooming easier, but due to his great size, it is a significant task. Every three months (or whenever he becomes dirty), give your dog a gentle dog shampoo bath. Once a week, give his glossy coat a once-over with a natural bristle brush or mitt. Use coat conditioner or polish to make the sheen more vibrant.

Training

With a Dogo Argentino, try to begin training and socialisation as early as possible. If these dogs are large, strong adults with bad manners, they might be challenging to control.

This breed requires a self-assured owner who is dependable in applying effective training techniques. Learning might be hampered by harsh corrections. As soon as your dog is old enough, sign him/her up for a puppy obedience class. And to develop its comfort and confidence, introduce it to a variety of people, pets, and circumstances. A Dogo is more likely to be amiable toward strangers and other dogs than defensive as they have more favorable interactions with them.
