Devon Rex Cat

Devon Rex cat

Description

 Size:5-10 lbs

The Devon Rex is distinguished by its triangular face, big, low-set ears, and large eyes, which give it an alien look. The Devon Rex has a thin, curly coat that is available in a variety of tones and patterns in addition to its remarkable facial traits. In contrast to other cats, they have very short, curved whiskers that might give the impression that they are missing altogether.

Their velvety, curly coats can be thick or sparse; light coated Devons may require more care owing to potential skin problems or excessive coat oil.

Behavior

 Activity Level: High

Social needs: thrive attention, love humans and other animal’s company

Many Devons take pleasure in riding on the shoulders of their loved ones, relishing the attention and proximity to their favorites. They show a keen interest in everything that is happening and won’t allow themselves to be excluded from any activity. They will stay as near to you as they can, occasionally voicing their thoughts in a low voice. They love to play with animals and people who are at their own activity level.

Origin/History

In England, when the Cornish Rex cat first began competing in cat exhibitions, they were a novelty, and newspapers frequently ran images of them. Beryl Cox witnessed one of the images in Devon. She was intrigued because a colony of cats resided close by in an old tin mine where she lived. These cats had curly coats as well. A kitten with a curly coat belonged to Cox. Although the mother was a straight-haired barn cat, Cox believed that the dad was one of the stray cats from the tin mine since the kitten had curly hair. The Devon Rex breed, which was started by a cat by the name of Kirlee, rose to fame.

Care as a Pet

Taking care of your Devon Rex is easy and similar to how you would take care of most domestic cats. The greatest way to ensure your cat has a high quality of life is to know how to take care of it.

Exercise

The outgoing nature of the Devon Rex has a natural tendency towards physical activity. They need a lot of exercise, which you can give them by teaching them tricks and giving them engaging toys and surfaces to climb and leap on. While providing this intelligent breed with much-needed mental stimulation, training can strengthen the bond between you and your cat. Create areas that can accommodate your cat’s energy needs because Devon Rexes are known for seeking out lofty spots during play or rest.

Shedding

Although there isn’t a cat that is completely hypoallergenic, the Devon Rex comes close. It sheds very little, but solely from its very short coat. Even though it is one of the breeds with the least amount of maintenance, some light shedding is still to be expected.

Nutrition and Diet

Due to their voracious appetites, Devon Rexes will go to great lengths to steal food from the counter or table. Don’t let your Devon Rex’s diet include a lot of human food, and resist the need to give in to the cat’s pleading. Instead, make sure to feed it high-quality cat food to effectively regulate weight. Do not forget to give out rewards sparingly.

Commercial cat food typically works well for the Devon Rex. Due to the breed’s high level of activity, make sure to create a diet that allows for accelerated calorie burning. Before putting together a diet for your cat, always consult your veterinarian.

Grooming needs

Devon’s curly coat is simple to care for. Gently groom to prevent breaking the fine hairs. Sometimes, all it requires is for you to brush your palm over the coat. The fact that a Devon Rex coat sheds less and has fine hair that is hardly perceptible on clothing and furnishings is its finest feature.
