Combtooth Blenny Fish

Combtooth Blenny-fish

Size

20.8 inches

Physical characteristics and behavior

Massive blunt heads, eyes, and dorsal fins are features of combtooth blennies (which may have three to 17 spines). Their short, narrow pelvic fins lie in front of their large pectoral fins, and their tail fins are rounded. Their bodies are compressed, elongated, and scaleless. As their name suggests, combtooth blennies have teeth that resemble combs. The family’s majority of members are considerably smaller than the 53-cm hairtail blenny. Combtooth blennies are aquarium favourites because they are vibrant and active.

As Pet

  • Water Conditions

The temperature should always be between 74 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit, the pH should be between 8.1 and 8.4, and the specific gravity should be between 1.020 and 1.025.

  • Tank companions

The majority of peaceful fish will get along with your blenny. However, it would be beneficial if you used caution while putting the fish in an aquarium with bigger or smaller species. Large fish like lionfish will eat them, while lesser species are their food. Due to their territorial nature, these are inclined to attack other species.

  • Ideal tank Conditions

They are quite flexible and may survive in various tank environments. A single blenny fish can live in a 20-gallon tank. At all times, the water should be kept clean. Fish may survive in less-than-ideal water conditions, although they are prone to certain illnesses. Your blenny fish has to be kept in a reef aquarium. Because blennies prefer rocks with plenty of holes in them to hide in when they feel danger, you should also add a soft sandy substrate to it. Since the fish is likely to dig sandholes and burrows, it is important to fix rocks and other fixtures firmly. Additionally, the fish have been known to dig burrows and munch on living coral and rocks.

  • Food

Your blenny fish can eat practically any kind of dried, frozen, or live food. These omnivores consume both crustaceans and algal films. They will eat practically any fish food because they are not picky eaters. Some species, like the Lawnmower Blenny (Salaries spp. ), primarily consume algae, while others eat microscopic crustaceans like brine shrimp or mysis. Tennis and Gesenius, two blennies who spend the most of their time underwater, are omnivorous and will consume small crustaceans in addition to turfs and algal films.
