Mostly found in southern and central Europe as well as the southernmost portion of eastern Europe, Colobopsis truncata is a typical mediterranean zoogeographical feature.
Identification
A phragmotic “soldier” is present in this little dimorphic species. The head of the primary worker is cylindrical and abruptly truncated. The antennal insertion is close to the frontal carina’s centre, the propodeum’s dorsum is visibly concave in the lateral view, and the petiole scale has an acute summit in the lateral view and an indented dorsum in the front view. The minor worker’s frontal carina is straight. The worker’s head is rounded.
Care Guide
Although Colobopsis truncata maintenance is manageable, it is not advised for novices. They dwell in wood and have a modest growth rate.
Food
Colobopsis truncata are not picky eaters. They love sugars that come from fruit, sugar water or ant Colobopsis truncata are omnivorous creatures. Fruit sugars, sugar water, and ant jellies are all favorites of theirs. They thrive on fruit flies, mealworms, crickets, and other tiny insects as a source of protein.
Humidity
Colobopsis truncata doesn’t require a lot of humidity. It is more than enough to partially hydrate the nest. The colony doesn’t require any nest hydration as it gets bigger.
Temperature
Colobopsis truncata should be cooked to a temperature of at least 28°C or higher. To provide the ants a comfortable temperature, heat a portion of the nest.
Hibernation
The diapause period for Hibernation Colobopsis truncata lasts from late December to early February.
Sting/Bite
