Coahuilan Box Turtle

Coahuilan-Box-Turtle

The Box turtle species most in danger of extinction is the Coahuilan Box turtle. The Coahuilan Box turtle is almost entirely aquatic, in contrast to practically all other Box turtles.

Box turtles from Coahuila have unmarked, dark brown to black shells. Their shells may hold a lot of algae because they spend most of their lives in the water. They are opportunistic omnivores that live in springs in the desert of their small area.

Habitat

These turtles spend almost all of their time in the water while swimming over long grass and marshy bushes in the natural, which is Coahuila. They favor lush foliage and shallow water.

Given that they spend the most of their time in the water, their artificial habitat ought to have adequate water for them to swim in. A container that can hold 75 to 100 gallons of water should be adequate. Plants must also be added to the aquarium. Eleocharis (spike rush) and water hyacinth are two outstanding options. You occasionally need to change the plants because these species munch on them.

Feed

The Coahuilan box turtles are opportunistic eaters that consume whatever they come upon in the environment. They consume plant material, primarily spike rush, as well as crayfish, fish, reptiles, true bugs, beetles, dragonfly nymphs, and fly larvae.

Young aquatic box turtles can be fed every two to three days, however young Coahuilan box turtles require feeding every other day. Feed a balanced diet of vegetables and proteins. They are not picky eaters and will consume anything you feed them.

Light Requirements

It is essential to provide a strong light source because it enables turtles to produce vitamin D3. A decent light source will provide the turtle sufficient UVB ray exposure. You can put the habitat by a window that receives a lot of natural light to serve as a light source. You can get fake UVB lighting as well.
