Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

cavalier king charles spaniel

A toy dog of the spaniel type, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a British breed. When it was crossed with flat-nosed breeds in the late seventeenth century, the Cavalier King Charles underwent a significant transformation.

Appearance

The Cavalier should have a moderately long, silky coat and its tail should typically not be docked. Standards specify that it should be straight, albeit a small wave is acceptable. As they get older, they may develop feathers on their tail, feet, legs, and ears. This must be kept long according to standards, with the breed’s characteristic foot feathering being of special importance.

Temperament

The breed is exceptionally friendly, patient, playful, and ready to please. Dogs of the breed are therefore friendly with both humans and other dogs. Cavaliers aren’t afraid to interact with much bigger dogs. They are suited to both metropolitan and rural life and will rapidly adjust to practically any setting, family, and location.

Diet

The greatest components in premium dog diets include blueberries, cranberries, dried kelp, and pumpkin.

You should give your Cavalier King Charles spaniel a high quality, sensible portion-controlled diet made with food designed for toy or tiny breeds, just like you would with any other dog. No matter how much they give you puppy dog looks, don’t overfeed them because the breed is linked to obesity. Consider feeding them portions of their meals from a slow-feed dish or an interactive treat toy if they gobble down their food and are constantly hungry for more.

Grooming

A daily 10-minute brush-out is essential, according to Huggins. “Start by lightly spraying the silky coat with water, then brush the fringe all the way around the ears and skirts. Dead hair is removed by brushing, and the coat should feel smooth and lie flat. Use a pin brush or a boar bristle brush.
