Native Region/Habitat

This snake is indigenous to Florida, particularly the southern regions such the southern everglades and the Miami Rim Rocks. Farmlands, wetlands, and the Everglades have all been home to these snakes.

Behavior:

Although they are diurnal (awake throughout the day), they will seek cover during the day if the temperature is particularly high. When threatened, they will hiss and shake their tails like rattlesnakes and may even resort to using their faces as a weapon. They do not hibernate over the winter like many snakes do. They are relatively calm and simple to care for.

Care As a pet/In captivity:

You will discover the numerous facets of handling these kinds of snakes. You can learn more about your snake’s nutrition, environment, behaviors, and several other aspects of care here.

  • Pinky mice are a good place to start with small young snakes. However, as your snake grows, you should try giving it larger hairy mice or even baby rats to eat. Also, you need to supply your snake with plenty of clean water in its enclosure. For Kingsnakes, staying well hydrated is crucial. Make sure to periodically replace the water.
  • In comparison to other kingsnakes, the Brooks Kingsnakes grow to be quite large. They can reach a length of 6 feet. As a result, you’ll need a sizable enclosure to house them. At least 40 gallons should be available in the snake tank. You are welcome to go bigger if you want. The extra room will be a hit with your snake.
  • Temperatures between 70 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit are ideal for Brooks kingsnakes. However, they enjoy lying in the sun to warm up. So keep in mind to use a heat pad and a 60–70 watt bulb to produce a hot zone in your enclosure that is 82–85 degrees Fahrenheit. Brooks kingsnakes require 45–50% humidity. To regulate the humidity in the enclosure, you can purchase a humidifier.
