Boer Goat

boer-goats

Description:

Large, stocky creatures with a white body and a redhead, brown eyes, lop (downward-hanging) ears, backward-curving horns, and powerful, well-positioned legs are the most valued Boer goats.

Behavior:

Because they are quiet and have a placid temperament, boer goats are simple to care for. This goat enjoys mingling and loves to be with others. Because it doesn’t fight with other goats, it is a preferred goat for managing land. In addition, along with the Pygmy goat and the Nigerian dwarf sheep, it is one of the few sheep species that makes a decent pet.

Benefits/Uses:

The Boer goat is a breed of goat that was developed especially for meat production and is recognized as the best meat goat in the world. Goat meat is becoming more and more popular and in demand in both the domestic and international markets since it is low in cholesterol and saturated fat.

Origin/History:

Dutch farmers in South Africa created the Boer goat in the early 1900s. In 1993, they were brought to the country. In the same year, the American Boer Goat Association (ABGA) was established. It is a rare breed and well-known for producing incredible amounts of meat.

Keeping as Pet:

  •  Habitat Conditions & Setup

You’ll need plenty of space for your Boer goat to wander and graze. Specialists generally advise a pen with at least 50 to 60 square feet. Moreover, it should have a minimum 15 square foot inside cage with heating and weather protection. Fresh water should be abundant both inside and outside the shelter.

  •  What to Feed Your Boer Goat

Boer goats are grazers who will also consume tiny shrubs. They frequently consume weeds, woody shrubs, and other plants that cows leave behind. To make the most of their fields, many farmers alternate the two types of livestock. Naturally, the myth that goats will eat almost anything is one that we have all heard, and for the most part, it is accurate. To earn the most money for the meat or to give your goat the best chance of living the longest, you must feed it properly.
