Blue-Crowned Conure

blue-crowned-conure

Description

Life span:  20-30 years

The bird’s head’s crowns are blue, but its predominant hue is green. Two shades of blue, one vibrant and darker and the other paler and tinged with sky blue, can be seen on the head of a Blue-crowned Conure. They have a variety of green hues on their bodies. They have the unmistakable white eye patch of Conures, and their bills are frequently bicolored.

Normally, the top beak is horn-colored, and the lower beak is typically black. Conures with bicolored bills are commonly referred to as sharp-tailed conures. The red underside of a Blue-crowned Conure’s tail varies in hue, going from pink-red to dark rust.

Habitat/Native Region

From Colombia to Argentina, the blue-crowned conure can be found in South America. Savannas, jungles, and forested areas make up its natural environment.

As Pet

Behavior

These birds are extraordinarily gregarious and friendly creatures. They develop strong ties with the owner, who gives them the care and attention they need. Because they rarely bite, blue-crowned conures are a suitable companion for families with young children.

They are gregarious birds that seek company and attention. If they do not have a bird partner, they will need many hours of human interaction every day. Blue-crowned conures are more intelligent and receptive to being trained to communicate than other conure species. However, no amount of training will silence this naturally chattery bird. When upset or delighted, it could yell and shriek, which is not good for living in an apartment. If person try to correct the bird for crying, it will scream even louder.

Care

Each day, blue-crowned conures need a lot of time spent outside of their cages. The bird needs a large cage with plenty of space to play and exercise. Toys are essential for the mental health of the bird because most owners are unable to spend as much time with their parrot as they would want. Toys also stimulate exercise and play. The best toys for a vicious chewer like the blue-crowned conure are made of softwood. Conures kept in captivity require a diet high in leafy green vegetables, fresh fruits, and premium pellets.
