Blood Python

Blood-Python

Description:

Scientific name: Python brongersmai

Life span: Around 25 years

Although Burmese pythons, which are enormous constrictors that may reach lengths of over 20 feet, are typically trapped in Florida, they typically measure between 6 and 10 feet long. They are bigger as adults than practically all local snakes. Burmese pythons often have a tan tint with dark spots on the back and flanks.

Native Region/Habitat

In Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, low-lying forested hills, marshes, and tropical swamps are home to blood pythons. Although there are unconfirmed reports that these snakes may exist in other nations, such as Singapore, it is more likely that humans introduced them there.

Behavior:

Wild-caught animals will be hostile and frequently refuse to eat. Bloods that were raised in captivity, however, are calm and make ideal pets. A species of python known as brongersmai is mostly crepuscular (usually active around dawn and dusk). A Blood python might stink if it’s defending itself. In order to fend off assailants, they will spray a vile-smelling liquid out their vent. If not, they could hide or go to their water dish to unwind and flee the assailant.

Care As a pet/In captivity:

Captive-bred Blood pythons are calm and friendly animals that make fantastic pets.

  • 10-Gallon cages are ideal for Blood python infants because larger enclosures stress them out more readily. Plastic containers are fine as long as ventilation holes are drilled through the lid or sides. Your mature Blood python ought to be able to fully extend its body inside its enclosure. It demands a substantially big enclosure because it lives for 25 years. A reasonable rule of thumb is 48L x 24W x 12H inches, but always aim to go bigger.
  • Between 76°F and 80°F should be the temperature of the enclosure’s cool side. Provide a hiding place for your python on this side of the enclosure. 86 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit should be on the enclosure’s warm side. We advise setting up an under-tank heating pad on the warm side of the tank to preserve the heat. A steady 89°F should be present in the basking area.
  • The ideal humidity range is 60% to 70%. Do not go above this. Any higher, and your snake will experience breathing problems and develop wrinkles on its scales.
  • Usually advise feeding thawed food to snakes. Live prey can spread parasites and attack your snake in self-defense, and sustaining the live prey comes at an additional cost.
