When grown, the juveniles of this kind are light brown. inside an anemone, alone, in pairs, or in small clusters. Like other clownfish, black ocellaris live in symbiosis with sea anemones. In exchange for food, the anemone is shielded.

  • Care of Aquariums

These clownfish are robust and quite simple to maintain. When given good water conditions and a tank that has been maintained, they thrive. Even though saltwater fish are tolerant to imperfect water quality, persistently bad water quality will cause illness and disease. Additionally, biweekly water changes will assist in replenishing the trace elements that fish and corals consume. Following are recommendations for water changes in aquariums of various shapes and sizes:

  • Fish Only Tank

Nano/small tanks up to 40 gallons should undergo 15% water changes every two weeks for fish-only tanks. Medium-sized systems up to 90 gallons, depending on bioload, perform 20% to 30% monthly. When the water in large tanks is steady and aged, it can be changed 20% to 30% every six weeks, depending on the bioload.

  • Reef tank

Weekly 5% water changes for nano/small tanks up to 40 gallons are carried out. Medium-sized, 15% twice a week, up to 90 gallons. When the water in large tanks is stable and old, it can be changed from 10% biweekly to 20% monthly, depending on the bioload.

See Saltwater Aquarium Fundamentals for more details on keeping a saltwater aquarium. Maintenance. Specialized filtration and lighting equipment is needed for a reef tank. Check out Mini Reef Aquarium Basics to learn more about maintaining reefs.

Water Changes: Bi-weekly water changes should be 15% every two weeks or 30% every month. Depending on the size of the tank and whether there are corals, 5% weekly to 15% every two weeks should be added.

  • Set Up an aquarium

Clownfish can be housed in a micro reef or a saltwater aquarium. A minimum tank size of 10 gallons will work perfectly for the Ocellaris because it is a tiny clownfish, but be sure to perform frequent water changes to maintain high water quality. Keeping a male and female pair will help keep the quality high, so make sure there are at least 20 gallons of water available. Don’t house it with aggressive fish and provide it lots of hiding spots in aquariums lacking an anemone. Even while they will love having a host anemone, they can easily adapt to a saltwater tank without one. Frequently, they will substitute a coral, another invertebrate, or even a rock formation. For the fish to hide in and forage off of, live rock is recommended.

Depending on the requirements of the kept anemone, offer a tank that is at least 55 gallons or bigger if you plan to keep it with one. Although an anemone needs proper illumination and a tank that is at least six months to a year old, the clown has no unique lighting needs. Although water flow is not a major factor, some regions of the tank require sluggish circulation in order to feed. Your clown fish will spend the majority of its time snuggled up inside the anemone, while other fish will avoid it to avoid becoming its meal. This species inhabits tropical regions, where the average temperature in their natural environment is around 80° F (26.7° C). The ideal water temperature for an aquarium is between 74° and 79° F (23° and 26° C). Extremes at or below 64° F (18° C) or 90° F (32° C) would be intolerable to them. Temperatures between 79°F and 83°F (26°C and 28°C) are ideal for spawning. pH levels between 7.8 and 8.4 are OK to them.
