The excessive abundance of eumelanin in the American Bully’s coat is what gives the dog its dark pigment. Black pitbulls have a dominant black gene; therefore, their offspring can have a black coat with just one black parent. Black pitbulls and black American Bullies come in three main varieties: those with a solid black coat, a black nose, and a black brindle.
The body’s minimal colour ratios are:
Except for white, 80% of the coat should be a solid colour.
20% or fewer of the coat may be covered in white markings.
Genes
K (dominant black) locus is a genetic trait that affects the coat color of dogs. The dominant black color in dog breeds is due to a mutation in a Beta-defensin gene (CBD103). The allele dominant to a dog’s coat color determines whether it will be black or brown. This allele also determines whether a dog will have white or tan noses, toes, and pads on its feet. The allele on K (dominant black) locus is Kb: Kb dogs have dark black coats and may have white or tan noses, toes, and pads on their feet.
