Size
The greatest size of this fish is one inch (2.5 centimeters).
Physical Characteristics and Behavior
Most Corydoras species only have approximately 11 rays on their dorsal fins, however the Corydoras cochui has around 17 rays. They can grow up to 2.6 inches in length. With a slight head tilt, they may simulate blinking and appear to be doing it. These fish are “facultative air breathers” that frequently surface for a breath because of their highly vascularized gut, which allows them to absorb atmospheric oxygen. The aquarium should be covered and only partially filled because the fish might breathe air from its surroundings.
As Pet Care
- Water Conditions
It enjoys a tropical climate with water that is 79 degrees Fahrenheit or warmer, with a hardness of 2 to 25, and a pH between 6.0 and 8.0. (26 degrees Celsius).
- Diet
It eats various things, including worms, insects, plant detritus, and benthic crustaceans. Accepts a broad and varied diet that includes, to name a few, granular meals, frozen bloodworm, and high-quality flake.
- Tank Setup
There are several places to hide among the bogwood and boulders. Aquarium sand is the best substrate to use with these catfish.
- Temperament
Peaceful.
- Recommended Tank mates
Wherever possible, I would advise the aquarist to keep these catfish in small groups of six or more in a communal aquarium, but if they aren’t readily available in these numbers, I would advise keeping no fewer than three individuals. Corydoras cochui would be found in relatively large shoals in their natural environment.
