Australian Cattle Dogs do not have docked tails; instead, they are known as Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dogs. They stand square with ample of leg length under the body and have naturally bobbed tails.
The two breeds of Cattle Dogs differ significantly in terms of breed type. A naturally bob-tail breed is the stumpy tail cattle dog. Some Stumpy Tail puppies have long tails when they are born, but if they have good structural quality, they should be kept in breeding programmes and bred to good natural bob tails.
Care as a Pet/ In Captivity
As with other dogs, you should continue to schedule routine veterinary exams for your Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog to catch any health issues early. Your veterinarian can assist you in creating a schedule of care that will keep your dog healthy.
Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dogs have a high level of energy and are prone to weight gain. Make sure your dog receives at least two good, vigorous play sessions and 30- to 60-minute walks every day, as well as a few shorter walks. You can also let your Stumpy run around and burn off some energy in the backyard, weather allowing.
Every day, check their ears for debris and vermin, and clean them as your veterinarian advises. Before they grow too long, trim your dog’s nails. This should be done once or twice a month. It shouldn’t be making noises against the ground. This is where your groomer can help.
Nutrition
It is advised to eat high-quality foods designed for all life phases. Depending on how much exercise the dog receives each day, different feeding amounts will be required. Two evenly spaced meals will do for the day. As long as the dog does not become overweight, free feeding is acceptable. These dogs seem to respond favourably to a high-energy meal made with non-GMO grains. It is not required to switch from puppy meals to adult foods.
Training
Easily trained with strategies that rely on rewards. Humorous and problem solving in style. The temperament might be anything from outgoing to slightly suspicious of strangers. Good with well-known people. Can act as a small guard dog, warning owners when strangers approach their property. Receptive to judging in show rings.
Grooming
There aren’t many requirements for grooming. The coat will stay in good shape if it is brushed once a week using a slicker brush and a small tooth comb. When the dog becomes dirty, a bath should be given. It’s not necessary to eliminate facial whiskers. Keep your toenails short and dull. The toenails can have incredibly sharp edges and grow quite quickly.
