Description

A little bird known as the Atlantic canary also goes by the names island canary, common canary, and simply canary. The male’s head and underparts are primarily yellow-green, and his forehead is yellower. The undertail-coverts and lower belly are white, with a few black streaks on the sides. The upper portions are gray-green with black stripes, while the rump has a faint yellow color. The female resembles the male, except she is duller, with such a greyer head and breast and a less golden underside.

Numerous color variations of the species, which is frequently kept in captivity, have been created. The canary gained its name from the Canary Islands. The first canary was an ordinary sparrow with a greenish hue that sang only occasionally.

Habitat/Native Region

It is indigenous to the Canary Islands, Azores, and Madeira, which are situated in the Macaronesia region of the eastern Atlantic Ocean. Sand dunes, pine and Laurel forests, and other diverse ecosystems may contain it. Orchards and corpses are the environments with the greatest prevalence of it. It frequently occurs in constructed environments like parks and gardens.

Behavior

The reputation of the Atlantic canaries as very friendly birds exists. They seem to enjoy perching on trees to sing their lovely, delicate tunes. Whether they are found in the wild or were raised in captivity, canaries are diurnal animals, which means they are awake during the day and asleep at night. Bird lovers because of their lovely sounds and hues keep them.

They enjoy singing to themselves in their cages. It’s uncommon to find Canaries that have solely been reared by hand, but they can be gregarious and easy to handle.

Care

For the sake of safety, each canary needs to be housed in its own cage. Canaries don’t like to live in close quarters and are territorial. A person can effortlessly feed canary. The majority of canaries enjoy various fruits, vegetables, Canary seed mix, egg food, and other high-protein foods.
