Asian Forest Scorpion

asian-forest-scorpion

Description

Scientific Name: Heterometrus longimanus

These scorpions get rather large. Most of the colour is dark. However, it can also range from pale brown to virtually black, depending on the species. They are viviparous scorpions.

Chinese Forest Scorpions are extremely tolerant creatures that easily adapt to different environments. They are also very simple to maintain, even for novices. They don’t require much to survive, and under the right growth environments, they can thrive for years.

Habitat

The Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Laos, and China are among the countries that have Heterometrus scorpions. Asian Forest Scorpions are terrestrial tropical creatures that typically live underground, behind trees, and in leaf litter in tropical rainforests.

Behavior

One of the few species that can coexist with other species pretty safely and without much violence or cannibalism is the fully mature Asian forest scorpion. Cannibalism does happen, but it’s uncommon and usually only happens between young scorpions when there isn’t enough food or room for them to spread out.

They like to go and hide beneath logs, stones, leaves, or anything else that is inside the enclosure because they are very timid. When touched, Asian forest scorpions typically defend themselves. They typically attempt to flee or adopt a defensive stance. Even they rarely sting and usually prefer to pinch when they are extremely irritated. They are exclusively nocturnal creatures that rarely venture outside during the day. Their busiest time begins around sundown and ends before morning during the night.

Caging:

Baby animals can be housed in Kritter Keepers until they are old enough to be moved to ten-gallon tanks.

Cage décor:

To provide the scorpion with a place to hide, use a log or a piece of cork bark. Additionally, artificial plants and rocks can be employed as cover to lessen stress.

Lighting and heating:

This species doesn’t require any lights, however depending on the local climate, you might need to provide a heat source. Keep this species between 75 and 85 degrees.

Humidity and water:

The humidity level for this species should be between 70 and 80 percent, and it should always have access to a tiny, shallow water dish.

Diet and feeding:

This species can be fed crickets, worms, and roaches of the proper size.

Supplements:

Scorpions don’t require any extra nutrients.
