Description

Lifespan: 7-10 years

The Archangel Pigeon’s elongated, slender body form is one of its most distinctive features. The pigeons look majestic and aristocratic because of their small heads and lengthy necks. Their wingspan is around 12 inches, and they have pointed, skinny wings. They have an elegant and graceful appearance because to their long, pointed tail.

There are many colors available for the Archangel Pigeon, including blue, black, red, white, silver, and yellow. They all have a metallic sheen on their feathers, though, which furthers their beauty regardless of colour. They also have remarkable eyes, which, depending on the genetics of the particular bird, can be either red or brown.

Origin/ Habitat

It is a very old breed, and Dalmatia or Illyria is most likely where it originated. Currently, it may be found in Germany, the UK, the US, and a few more nations throughout the globe.

Behavior

Archangel Pigeons are renowned for their distinct behavioral traits in addition to their physical attributes. For instance, they are highly active birds that enjoy flying and acrobatics in the air. They are also social birds, which take pleasure in interacting with people and other animals. Due to their sociable and extroverted character, they are frequently kept as pets.

The Archangel Pigeon’s propensity to “dance” when joyful or enthusiastic is another intriguing behavior. It’s fascinating to watch the pigeon do its dance, which entails frantic wing flapping and head bobbing. They create gentle, tranquil cooing noises that are pleasing to the ear.

As Pet

Archangel pigeons are suitable for keeping indoors and in tiny, enclosed spaces since they have low-odor droppings and are easy-going birds. Additionally, they can survive in both hot and cold climes. They also don’t have many health issues and have a good fertility rate.

Housing and Diet Requirements

A cage for these pigeons must be at least 21 inches (54 cm) long to be adequate. Additionally, it should be tall enough to provide them at least 3 to 4 feet of vertical area to walk about, groom themselves, and flap their wings.

An omnivorous species of bird is the archangel pigeon. Along with optional live food like mealworms and crickets, grit, commercial pigeon mix, and fresh water should be provided. You can occasionally give out snacks of grapes, apples, and other soft fruits.
