Angolan Python

Angolan-Python

Description:

Scientific name: Python anchietae

Life span: 30 years or more

Python anchietae can reach a maximum total length of 183 cm (6 ft) (including tail). The color pattern has irregular white or cream-colored bands and patches over a reddish-brown to brown to almost-black ground. It has a yellowish belly. It is the only species of python with “bead-like” head scales, and is a rare species that is rarely seen in the wild or in captivity. Its upper lip is covered in five heat-sensitive pits, one on each side of the head. 57–61 rows make up the smooth dorsal scale arrangement.

Native Region/Habitat

Southwest Africa, from Southern Angola to Namibia, is home to angolan pythons. These snakes can only be found at altitudes between 2460 and 5250 feet above sea level, where they can only be found in scrublands, grasslands, and rocky places.

Behavior:

They are primarily nocturnal and like to hunt at night. Five heat-sensitive holes on either side of the face of Angolan pythons enable them to determine the location and movement of warm-blooded prey. Despite being a sizeable snake, angolan pythons are thought to be rather calm. Compared to ball pythons, angolan pythons are bolder, more talkative, and like to spend time exploring. This is why having a sizable enclosure is crucial.

Care As a pet/In captivity:

Angolan pythons may be kept in captivity with a considerable amount of ease and predictability. Although the species does well in sterile, uncluttered environments, it particularly benefits from intricate arrangements with rocky shelves and lovely desert flora. However, when building these complex configurations, caution must be exercised. All rocks and other cage accessories should be anchored. Despite being relatively small in comparison to many other boids, these snakes are stocky, robust, and capable of demolishing a terrarium in a single evening (and possibly hurting the inhabitant).

An adult Angolan python can grow to be more than 4 feet long and have a very substantial girth; because of this size, it needs a rather sizable enclosure. For a single animal, a terrarium or special cage shouldn’t be any smaller than 2 feet long, 2 feet wide, and 2 feet tall.

A basking zone on one end of the enclosure shouldn’t be higher than 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and the ambient temperature should be between 78 and 80 degrees. 365 days a year, maintain this range of temperatures with no observable dip at night

Your Angolan python can shed appropriately if you maintain a humidity level of roughly 50%.

Before feeding your Angolan, wait a few hours before handling it. Angolans are not picky eaters and will typically accept frozen, thawed, or live mice or rats.
