Description:
Scientific name: Tiliqua scincoides sp.
Life span: Up to 15-20 years
A naturally occurring mutation that results in an absence of the color pigment (melanin) in the animal’s skin results in albino blue tongues. Albino blue tongues are typically entirely white, yellow, occasionally with lavender, or purple undertones, and have red eyes.
Native Region/Habitat
There are several blue-tongued skinks in the Australian mainland.
Behavior:
Although they move very slowly, blue-tongued skinks will run. They are active throughout the day and look for shelter at night, usually in the abandoned burrows of other animals.
Care As a pet/In captivity:
An excellent first reptile pet for novices and kids. Blue tongue lizards are fascinating to observe and quite interactive. They consume a variety of live insects, fruits, vegetables, and specially made lizard pellets because they are omnivorous.
