adolfo’s-catfish

Size

The males of Corydoras adolfoi are a little bit shorter than the females, which measure around 5.5 cm.

Physical Characteristic

A bright orange patch can be seen on the Adolfo’s catfish between its dorsal and eyes. The fish has two distinct black stripes: one that runs across its eyes and one that runs along its back.

Habitat

It is located in Brazil’s Rio Negro basin and comes from South American inland waters. It also goes by the name Adolfo’s cory.

Care

The attractive, sought-after Adolfo’s Cory is best suited for modest softwater aquariums. There should be plenty of shady hiding places among the bogwood/plants and soft sand in the substrate to shield the sensitive barbel area. Corydoras adolfoi needs to be kept in groups of at least five because they are a social species. Before introducing this species, the aquarium should be fully developed, and periodic partial water changes are essential because they might be quite sensitive to high nitrate levels.

The best tank mates are other peaceful species like some of the smaller fish from the tetra, pencilfish, and rasbora families. Since corydoras can breathe air through their intestines, there should be a tiny space between the water’s surface and the cover slides so that the fish can rise to the surface and breathe. It might perform this several times every day. Similar to C. imitator in appearance, but with a longer snout. Additionally, C. duplicareus and C. burgessi are similar, and many fish labelled as “adolfoi” are actually the more prominently marked C. duplicareus

Diet

Worms, insects, benthic crustaceans, and plant materials are its main food sources.

Water Parameters

Low pH (5,3-5,4), 78 °F (26 °C) temperature, and conductivity of 7,0–8,3 microSiemens
