Description:
Scientific name: Cyrtodactylus Irianjayaensis
Life span: 10+ years
One of the world’s biggest huge geckos is this one. This magnificent reptile features a huge, broad body and skull, as well as toes that are noticeably bent. The Giant Bent-Toed Gecko has thick, leathery skin that is covered in countless tiny bumps. This gecko’s color can vary, but it often has deeper banding and brown or gray tones.
Native Region/Habitat
Irian Jaya, an Indonesian island, is home to this fantastical animal.
Behavior:
The huge bent-toed gecko is shy and prefers to hide in chilly, humid, and gloomy settings. It is found in lowland forests naturally. The C. Irianjayaensis is a nocturnal, very arboreal species of gecko. In addition to being found in trees, many Cyrtodactylus species are seen low to the ground in the wild. Males are said to be territorial and shouldn’t live together. These geckos could bite, but with constant handling, they can become tame.
Care As a pet/In captivity:
Housing:
The enormous bent toed gecko is a huge gecko, as its name suggests, therefore it will need a lot of area to feel comfortable. The more room that can be made available, the better, since they will flourish with many places to hide at different levels. For an adult, a minimum enclosure measurement of 18x18x36 would be advised. An excellent choice would be a Zoo Med Big ReptiBreeze Aluminum Screen Cage.
Heating and Lighting:
A source of UVB would be advised even though the giant bent toed gecko prefers to live in deep forests and is nocturnal. A low wattage “moon” bulb would be ideal because Cyrtodactylus irianjayaensis are not known for sunbathing at high temperatures.
Humidity:
The optimal humidity range for the huge bent-toed gecko would be between 50 and 60 percent, with daily increases of up to 90 to 100 percent. They will require misting one to two times daily.
Nutrition:
Large insects and young mice are only two examples of the many prey that C. irianjayaensis will eat. Snails serve as a frequent source of calcium for them in the wild.
