The Australian Kelpie is a lean, energetic dog that can put in endless effort. He has boundless energy and is incredibly intelligent, alert, and eager.
The Australian Kelpie is a very dedicated and intensely loyal herding dog. He can work with sheep in either open fields or confined yards because he has a natural instinct and aptitude for it. This breed was created to resist the extreme heat and dry conditions of Australia’s huge open areas; however it was originally derived from Collie-type dogs imported from Scotland.

Diet and Nutrition
Australian kelpies, especially those who work, need to eat a high quality, nutrient-dense diet to fuel their active bodies. Ask your veterinarian or breeder for advice if you’re unsure of what or how much to feed your kelpie. Despite the fact that kelpies engage in so much physical activity that obesity is unlikely to affect them, older kelpies or those who are recovering from an accident may require a lower-calorie diet to prevent weight gain. In addition to contributing to joint conditions like arthritis, elbow dysplasia, and hip dysplasia, being overweight raises your risk of developing diabetes and other health problems.
