Haitian Reef Anemone

Haitian Reef Anemone.

The Haitian Reef Anemone also known as Pink-Tip Condy is located not surprisingly near the Haiti region. The Haitian Reef Anemone lives in coral-sand areas of shallow lagoons and inner reef districts as a solitary anemone or with other anemones. Given that this species inhabits shallow tidal regions, it is accustomed to direct sunlight and will need intensive illumination in an aquarium environment (this species cannot survive without a high-quality lighting system – metal halide or combination power compact). It has a red column body, with long tapering pink tipped tentacles. The principal behaviour of Haitian Reef Anemones is to hide itself, either just burying the base or placing itself in between rocks or cracks. Remember always to either; offer sufficient sand for the Haitian Reef Anemone to burrow itself into or have rocks and crevices for the Haitian Reef Anemone to attach itself to in the aquarium.

The Haitian Reef Anemone should not be placed in most reef aquarium because the anemone is constantly moving and its sting is fatal to all anemones and most corals. Also do not house Red-Leg Hermit Crabs with this species because the Haitian Reef Anemone is food for them in the wild.
