Care Guide

The Sebae anemone, with its vibrant colors and graceful tentacles, is a captivating addition to any saltwater aquarium. However, providing optimal care for this marine invertebrate requires a deep understanding of its natural habitat, dietary needs, and physical characteristics.

Body Type and Physical Characteristics

Sebae anemone or Heteractis magnifica is a large polyp, its body structure resembles a column-like body. The base of the anemone is anchored in a hard surface, whereas the mouth which has many tentacles around is oriented upwards. Tentacles are commonly elongate and narrow and bear cnidocytes or nematocysts in order to seize their prey. Their color patterns can be simple or complex depending on the type, ranging from green, brownish, gray, to union of the these tones.

 Care and Maintenance

Per housing of Sebae anemone, one needs to have a mature tank with live rocks and stable salinity and pH levels. The optimal temperature level should be between 72°F and 78°F (22°C to 26°C) with salinity level of 1. 023 to 1. 025. It was found out that normally a steady and speedy flow of water is required for the supply of oxygen and food to the anemone. Lighting is also important to the corals as the anemone are crinoid tube-feeder which contain symbiotic algae in their tissues for photosynthesis.

The choice of the place to settle down is significant crucial for anemone. It favors a habitat with low human interference. In general, do not change the position of the anemone because this may bring a lot of stress to the shrimp. For the foundation, an appropriate substrate preferably live rock should be supplied and fitted accordingly.

The purity of the water in a specific environment is very important to the wellbeing of a Sebae anemone. Semi-mature and mature specimens should be provided with optimum water conditions through daily water changes and a valid bio-load needing good filtration and protein skimming. In particular, pay much attention to ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and the pH of the water.

 Diet and Feeding

Sebae anemones are predatory and the major diet is fish and other quarry like shrimps and other invertebrate. In confinement, they can be offered anemone food, frozen confection for marine fish, brine or mysis shrimp, or even little pieces of fish or other seafood. Feeding habits vary with the size and feeding habit of the anemone but in normal circumstances, it is recommended that feeding be done once or twice a week only. Restrict feeding to the minimum because any leftovers will contaminate water in the tank.

A Sebae anemone is not difficult to care for and it can be a very gratifying experience for those who will undertake the task. As you create a proper habitat, offer good food, and look after this wonder properly, you can have a number of years of wondering at this great creature’s elegance
