Black feather star is the popular name for the echinoderm species Colobometra perspinosa.
Description
The central Indo-Pacific region’s tropical waters are home to many black feather stars. In order to maximize nutrient absorption, this feather star is frequently clinched to gorgonians with its open arms towards the marine flow.
It has a maximum of ten arms and a maximum diameter of 30 cm (12 in). Its colouring is often black, but it can also be black and white, and in rare cases, brown-gold.
Behavior
They suspend their arms in the water column while clinging to gorgonians, coral, or rocks in elevated positions. A particle retracts and coils inward towards the mouth as soon as it meets an arm.
As Pet
Diet
They consume algae and tiny crustaceans for food.
