Characteristics and Genetics

In honour of the Florida cracker culture in which it was raised, the Florida Cracker cow is a breed of cattle that was established in the state of Florida. These cattle, one of the criollo-type breeds that the Spanish Conquistadors initially brought to the Southern United States, are sometimes referred to as Florida scrub cattle or simply as the cracker cow. True purebred Florida Cracker cattle have become more hard to find as a result of the breed’s selective breeding with other breeds over time. There were, however, a select few families who preserved the pure bloodline; later (in the early 1990s), the Pineywoods Cattle Registry and Breeders Association and the Florida Cracker Cattle Association took over this responsibility.

Uses

A breed of beef cow is called a Florida Cracker. They are primarily farmed for the production of meat.
